Typhoon-Resistant Construction: The Durable Sky Method

We conducted a test at the Architectural Institute of Japan to see if the Sky Sheet would be blown away by the strong winds of a typhoon. The test revealed that even with winds of 40 meters per second on a roof 16 meters high, the Sky Sheet did not get blown away. The double-sided tape used in the Sky Method is highly durable, with strong holding power and water-tightness. It has a usage temperature range of -10°C to 90°C, making it a high-performance tape suitable for outdoor use.


We conducted tests at the Architectural Institute of Japan, and it has passed wind pressure tests. The construction does not interfere with business operations and also provides rain leak prevention benefits.


Reflection and Radiation of Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil is characterized by its 'excellent reflective performance.' The higher the purity of the aluminum, the higher the reflectivity, resulting in greater heat insulation effectiveness. Additionally, aluminum foil has a low emissivity, which means it has the ability to suppress (or trap) the heat emitted from objects.


Characteristic 1: High Thermal Reflectivity

Electromagnetic waves that are radiated and bounce back off the surface of an object without being absorbed as heat are referred to as 'reflection.'

By using high-purity aluminum heat insulation sheets, we can efficiently reflect electromagnetic waves that become radiant heat.

Radiant heat refers to heat generated by electromagnetic waves that can transmit warmth even when the wind is blowing, and it is characterized by being unaffected by air. In addition to the heat from the sun, there is also heat from campfires, floor heating, and wood stoves.

The cause of the summer humidity is that this radiant heat accumulates in houses and factories, raising the indoor temperature.


Characteristic 2: Low Thermal Emissivity

Electromagnetic waves (thermal radiation) generate heat when they hit an object. The phenomenon of thermal radiation moving through space is referred to as 'thermal radiation.' Additionally, the heat generated from the absorption of thermal radiation is called 'radiant heat.' High-purity aluminum foil has low thermal emissivity, which helps suppress the heat emitted from objects. This works similarly to how foil baking traps heat inside.

With Thermobarrier, only 3% of radiant heat is emitted.

By having low thermal emissivity, radiant heat is prevented from escaping outdoors during winter, allowing for efficient indoor heating.


Here is the experiment that verifies the insulating effect of aluminum foil with a radiant heat emission rate of 3%.

Containers with aluminum foil attached have a higher temperature because they suppress the heat emitted compared to containers without it.

After 90 minutes of adding hot water, there is an approximate temperature difference of 8°C between the container with aluminum foil attached and the one without. Thus, because aluminum foil has a low emissivity, it can enhance the insulation properties of the container.
